Gutter Cleaning Fort Myers: Your Spring Inspection Checklist

If your gutters made it through last hurricane season looking fine, you might assume they are still good. They probably are not. Six months of dry weather, oak catkins, and roofing granules build up where you cannot see them. Spring is the right window for gutter cleaning Fort Myers homeowners often skip, because once rainy season hits in mid-May, every clog turns into a stained stucco wall or a soaked fascia board.

This guide walks you through a quick spring inspection you can do yourself, what to look for in Lee County’s specific debris and weather patterns, and when to call a pro.

Why Spring Inspections in Lee County Are Trickier Than You Think

Most online gutter advice assumes fall leaves, asphalt shingle roofs, and basements that flood. None of that describes Lee County.

Here, the debris cycle is different. Live oaks drop catkins from February through April, right when most homeowners are not thinking about gutters. Slash pines shed needles heaviest in spring. And palms drop seed pods and frond fragments that lodge in elbows and downspouts in ways pine needles never do.

Tile roofs add another wrinkle. They shed sand and grit constantly, and that sediment settles in the bottom of the gutter where you cannot see it from the edge. By April, a gutter that looks empty from the ground can have an inch of compacted grit slowing every drop of water. That is why even routine gutter cleaning Fort Myers crews handle every week looks different in spring.

What You Are Actually Looking For

A real spring inspection covers more than just leaves. It includes five separate checks, and each one signals a different problem:

  • Overflow stains: dark vertical streaks on the outside of the gutter, called tiger striping. The gutter has been overflowing.
  • Splash marks on stucco: water is spilling over the edge, usually from a clog or wrong pitch.
  • Sag: look down the run from one end. The gutter should pitch slightly toward the downspout, not dip in the middle.
  • Separated seams or end caps: common after a few hot summers. The sealant dries out and pulls away.
  • Soft or stained fascia: the board behind the gutter fails first when water sits where it should not.

Each points to something different. Tiger striping with a full gutter means a cleaning. Tiger striping with a sagging run usually means the hangers have pulled out of the fascia, and you probably have rot behind the gutter you cannot see.

A Five-Step Spring Inspection You Can Do From the Ground

You do not need a ladder for most of this. You should not be on one unless you know what you are doing and have someone footing it. Here is the fifteen-minute version after the next moderate rain.

  1. Walk the full perimeter and look up at every gutter run. Note overflow streaks, sag, or pulled fasteners.
  2. Check the splash zones at every downspout. Water should move freely away from the foundation. Ponding, displaced mulch, or settling pavers mean the downspout is clogged or too close to the house.
  3. Check the fascia behind and below each gutter. Stains, peeling paint, or visible rot mean water is getting where it should not.
  4. Inspect the soffit panels under the eaves. Soft spots, rust streaks at the seams, or visible gaps mean water intrusion or pest entry.
  5. After heavy rain, listen near the downspouts. A trickle that lasts ten or fifteen minutes after the rain stops means water is sitting in the gutter and working out through a partial clog.

A spring inspection is the cheapest part of any gutter cleaning Fort Myers homeowner pays for. If you find more than two issues from this list, bring someone in.

What Gutter Cleaning Fort Myers Homeowners Actually Pay For

There are roughly three tiers of service when you call a pro, and the price depends on which one your home actually needs.

  • Tier 1: Standard cleaning and flush. Crew clears debris by hand, flushes runs and downspouts, checks for visible issues. Most single-story Lee County homes caught early fall here.
  • Tier 2: Cleaning plus minor repairs. Same as tier one, plus resealing seams, re-securing hangers, replacing end caps. Common on homes overdue by two or more years.
  • Tier 3: Full evaluation with fascia and soffit assessment. When inspection turns up rot, sag, or chronic overflow damage, the work shifts from cleaning to repair or partial replacement.

Most homeowners think they need tier one and find out they actually need tier two. That is normal. The point of a spring inspection is catching the tier two issues before they become tier three.
